This ceramic has a checkered pattern with a brilliant green copper glaze called Oribe.
For the brilliant green color, wares are fired using oxidation at 1220 degrees Celsius. If these conditions are not met, the glaze may be brown or red, so this technique can be executed by skilled artists.
